Scarlet Yu Mei. Born in Hong Kong (1978), of Chinese-Thai heritage. living in Europe and is the mother of Ziko Yu Le Roy. Trained in dance and choreography, she reimagines choreography as a relational site of encounter and transformation. Working with body, movement and narration, her work navigates in-betweenness and Otherness to explore memory, heritage systems, transformative identities, and co-subjectivities.

Yu’s practice challenges dominant narratives through listening and embodied dramaturgy. She creates and shares work across theatres, museums, galleries, and public spaces. She also finds deep interest in food, as a site of a dynamic cross-species relational practice and cultural interruption, which increasingly informs her choreographic and research work.

She served as a jury member for Tanzplattform Germany 2018. Yu was selected as an artist for the ADAM Artist Lab and the Hombroich Summer Fellowship in 2017. Worked as Rehearsal Director at The Arts Fission Company in Singapore (2000–2010), and Theatre Program Executive at Skyhigh Creative Partners in Hong Kong (2011–2012). She holds an MFA in Choreography from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2015).
