M(other)HOOD is an ongoing artistic practice and research space shaped through many people, encounters, and relations within the “hood.”

It is not defined by a single voice, author, or position, but continuously formed through conversations, gatherings, writing practices, and shared moments of attention between those who participate.

Within the Hood, there are many presences — people who speak, listen, return, remain silent, or pass through. Together, these encounters form a shifting field of care, relation, and everyday life.

Rather than approaching motherhood as a fixed identity, M(other)HOOD begins from the unstable and relational conditions of living and caring alongside others.

It explores how experiences of care shape the ways we sense, relate, and move with ourselves, others, and the world.

Across different practices — Full Moon Meetings, Conversations, Gatherings, the Soft Archive, and the Toolkit — M(other)HOOD creates conditions where traces, thoughts, and encounters can emerge, linger, and return across time.

Nothing here is produced as a final form. Everything remains in formation, shaped through relation, time, and ongoing encounters within the Hood.

The platform was initiated by artist Scarlet YuMei in 2021. Its early development took shape in dialogue with choreographic and research collaborators, including Tung I-fen and Fan Xiang Jun, whose contributions informed its methodologies and expanded its field of inquiry. The project continues to evolve through changing constellations of collaboration and practice.
