Planting Tastes is a research-based performance project that intertwines culinary practice and choreography to create a multisensory field of encounter. It traces the genealogy of ingredients, with particular attention to those emerging from the overlapping zones of the chocolate belt and the tropical belt.

Through processes of preparing, tempering, and tasting, the work examines how food—especially chocolate—carries social, cultural, and political histories shaped by migration, colonisation, and ecological transformation. Planting Tastes positions taste as an embodied archive, where memory is activated through the materiality of food.

By bringing together movement, narration, and culinary gestures, the project creates a space in which individual and collective memories are “planted,” allowing chocolate to become a medium through which stories of place, displacement, and relation are sensed, shared, and reimagined.
